U.S. District Judge Karen Schreier awarded more than $13 million to a Georgia man on March 2, 2017, after a hearing against Dr. James Oury. According to the Argus Leader, this judgment “might be largest in state history.”
Goodsell Quinn attorneys, Terry Quinn and David Barari, represented Hudson Myers after Dr. Oury performed a controversial heart valve replacement surgery at Rapid City Regional Hospital. During the surgery, air bubbles got into Myers’ arteries and caused catastrophic and permanent neurologic injury.
The lawsuit alleged that Oury was negligent in his performance of the surgery and had failed to disclose vital information to Hudson Myers before the surgery.
The judgment of $13.4 million was based on the client’s past medical bills, future medical bills, life care and the loss of future earnings.
