Rapid City, South Dakota, June 18, 2015 – Rapid City Attorney Terry Quinn has been honored by the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. Quinn received the award during the South Dakota State Bar Convention from South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association president-elect Steven Beardsley of Rapid City.
Quinn, a partner with the Goodsell Quinn Law Firm in Rapid City, is one of four lawyers in the State to have ever received the honor. Others include Carleton R. “Tex” Hoy of Sioux Falls, former Judge Robert Ulrich, and John Hagemann, both of Vermillion.
The purpose of the Lifetime Achievement Award is to recognize a lawyer who has shown notable achievement as a trial lawyer over the course of his or her career. Nominees undergo a rigorous selection criteria when evaluated for the award. The award exemplifies Quinn’s extraordinary success in trial practice, service to the legal profession and the trial bar, advocacy for the protection of victims’ rights, and his effort to educate the public concerning the need to preserve the integrity of the civil justice system.
Quinn is the first Rapid City attorney to receive the award. Quinn continues to practice law in various jurisdictions throughout the Midwest and United States in State and U.S. Courts.
When asked what the award means to Quinn he responded casually. “That’s a big, huge, question. It means a tremendous amount, but the award only cements my belief that there are people out there that need help, and I’m going to continue to be there.”
Quinn has more than 35 years of trial experience, and has authored many articles on trial practice as well as co-author of "Anatomy for Attorneys," reprinted last year as "Medical Evidence" by James Publishing.
Quinn practices complex civil litigation, concentrating in the areas of medical malpractice, product liability, environmental and business and commercial litigation. He lectures extensively throughout the United States and Canada on various trial-related subjects. Quinn is an Adjunct Professor of Law, concentrating his professional responsibilities on the subject of negotiation, settlement and jury persuasion.
Quinn is a past President of the State Bar of South Dakota, previous President of the South Dakota Trial Lawyers’ Association, and presently on the Board of Governors for the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice. Quinn has served as Chair of the board of trustees for the National College of Advocacy.
Quinn served as faculty for the National College of Advocacy "Ultimate Course in Trial Advocacy," and has lectured at Harvard University School of Law, Hastings School of Law, the University of Wisconsin School of Law, Arizona State University School of Law, and other institutions. Quinn is a member of the South Dakota Trial Lawyers’ Association, American Association for Justice, the American Judicature Society, the American Society of Law & Medicine, the International Society of Barristers, and the American Board of Trial Advocates.
